Question 1

Do I really just… text?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Text (844) 482-4881 like you'd text a client about a gallery. "Deposit $800," "paid second shooter $400," "what do I owe?" — Toozi logs it, sorts it, and answers. No app, no login.

Question 2

What can a photographer write off?

Accepted Answer

Camera bodies, lenses, lights, memory cards and drives, editing software like Lightroom and Photoshop, your website and gallery hosting, second shooters and editors you pay, studio rent, business miles and travel to shoots, insurance on your gear, and the business share of your phone and computer. Toozi sorts each one for Schedule C.

Question 3

How are deposits taxed?

Accepted Answer

A deposit is income when you receive it, even if the wedding is next year. Toozi logs it when it arrives and applies it to the final invoice so the client's balance and your books both stay right.

Question 4

I pay second shooters. Do I have to send them a 1099?

Accepted Answer

If you pay an individual $600 or more in a year for services, you generally file a 1099-NEC. Toozi tracks the running total per person, collects W-9s by text, and files the forms through Tax Hub.

Question 5

Can I write off a $3,000 camera all at once?

Accepted Answer

Often yes, through Section 179 or de minimis expensing, but it depends on your year. Toozi logs it as equipment and gives you both options at filing.

Question 6

How is that different from HoneyBook or QuickBooks?

Accepted Answer

HoneyBook runs your client contracts; QuickBooks makes you sit at a computer. Toozi keeps the money side current from your phone, matches it to your invoices, and files the return.

Question 7

Is my financial data safe?

Accepted Answer

256-bit AES encryption at rest and in transit, bank connections through Plaid (same infrastructure as Venmo), and payments through Stripe — your card data never touches our servers.

Question 8

Can I cancel anytime?

Accepted Answer

Yes. No contract, no cancellation fee. Text "cancel" and you're done — and you can export your books first.

Run your photo business from one text thread.
